On a liveaboard with three daily dives, you will wear the watch most of the waking day, keeping it wound. For precise bottom-time tracking underwater, an automatic watch is secondary to a computer u2014 its role on a liveaboard is surface timekeeping and backup elapsed-time reference.

Seiko's 200m diver range (SKX series and its successors) is the most commonly cited entry-point dive watch among Malaysian divers for its combination of ISO water resistance compliance, reliability, and price. Orient Mako and Ray are also popular. At the upper end, Rolex Submariner, Omega Seamaster, and Tudor Pelagos are seen but less common in the working-dive community. Casio G-Shock and Pro-Trek models with 200m or ISO-compliance are practical choices for those prioritising shock resistance.

Malaysia does not apply import duty on a watch that is clearly being worn as personal use u2014 customs officers consider items being worn or in a carry-on as personal effects below the reasonable personal use threshold. However, importing multiple watches or a new watch in original packaging may attract Customs scrutiny.
