Halcyon

Halcyon is based in High Springs, Florida - the centre of the American cave diving community, where the brand emerged in the early 1990s. Cave diving imposes absolute equipment reliability requirements: there is no ascent to the surface if equipment fails underground. Halcyon's product philosophy reflects those origins - maximum function, minimum complexity, zero tolerance for features that create failure modes without adding genuine capability.

A Halcyon backplate-and-wing BCD separates the inflation bladder from the harness and backplate into individually specified components. Divers select a backplate material (stainless steel for weight, aluminium for travel), a harness sized and configured precisely to their body dimensions, and a wing with lift capacity matched to their cylinder and equipment load. The result is a buoyancy system configured specifically for one diver rather than approximated for the average of many.

A correctly configured back-inflate BCD positions the diver in a horizontal trim naturally - face-down, parallel to the reef, without effort. Jacket BCDs push buoyancy forward, producing a head-up angle that requires constant fin compensation to maintain horizontal position. Horizontal trim directly reduces the accidental fin contact with reef that causes coral damage on high-traffic dive sites like Sipadan's reef walls.
