SSI Materials

SSI delivers all certification course content through the MySSI app and web platform. Once a student enrols through an SSI dive centre, course materials are unlocked in the app and accessible offline after initial download. PADI eLearning is delivered through a browser-based platform. SSI's approach means dive students in areas with slow or intermittent internet (common in remote Sabah and Terengganu resorts) can complete knowledge reviews offline after one initial sync.

An SSI certification card is internationally recognised and accepted for diving at any operator regardless of agency affiliation. The materials themselves u2014 manuals and logbooks u2014 are SSI-branded but contain equivalent recreational diving knowledge. If your SSI certification card is current (completed within the last 2 years for skills maintenance purposes, though the card itself never expires), any professional dive operator will accept it.

SSI specialities popular in Malaysia include Enriched Air Nitrox, Deep Diving, Wreck Diving, and Freediving. SSI's digital platform unlocks the required course materials through the MySSI app upon registration. Malaysian SSI centres at Redang, Mabul, and Kota Kinabalu offer a broad range of speciality courses u2014 check with individual centres for current availability as instructor certifications vary by location.

Yes u2014 SSI has a dedicated Freediving programme with levels from Freediving Level 1 through Performance Freediving and instructor tracks. SSI Freediving materials are available through the SSI digital platform. Interest in freediving has grown significantly in Malaysia, particularly around Perhentian and Tioman where calm, clear water and relatively shallow reefs suit breath-hold diving. Several KL-based SSI centres now offer SSI Freediving Level 1 pool and open water training.

You enrol through an SSI-affiliated dive centre, which registers you on the SSI system and unlocks your course materials in the MySSI app. You create a personal MySSI account, which stores your certification records, dive log, and completed course materials. Malaysian SSI centres are searchable through the SSI website's centre locator. Materials cost is typically included in the course fee u2014 confirm with your centre before purchasing SSI materials independently.

Agency cross-certifications u2014 completing certification with one agency when training materials from another are already held u2014 are handled at the instructor level and vary by agency policy. Generally, certification is awarded by the agency whose course standards are followed, not the brand of study materials used. An SSI Open Water student completing their course with an SSI instructor receives an SSI certification regardless of whether they also own a PADI manual. Cross-recognition between agencies applies to the certification card, not the courseware.
