We recommend washing the mask and snorkel with mild soap and warm water after each use. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. For more complex buildup, mix equal parts water and white vinegar in the snorkel, attach to a bucket, below the waterline, and let it soak for about 30 minutes, then rinse. For the mask, apply a small amount of baby shampoo, work it in, rinse, then rinse thoroughly to avoid soap residue. Regular maintenance will help maintain your Pirate in great condition. The key to smooth breathing with the snorkel is to ensure your child’s head remains still while snorkeling, and they take a slow, steady breath in through their nose, and exhales slowly through their mouth, rather than forcing exhales while above water. Also, make sure they practice proper breathing before snorkeling.
