What depth can I safely wear this hood for? Would the 5/3mm provide enough insulation for diving in cold water?

Thank you for your question, Celine! The Scubapro Everflex 5/3mm Hood is designed to provide excellent thermal insulation, but for safe diving, we recommend checking the water temperature. For the 5/3mm thickness, it’s suitable for cold water diving, but we’d need to know the exact water temperature you’ll be diving in. As a general rule, the 5/3mm hood is ideal for dives in water temperatures between 54°F and 64°F (12°C and 18°C). If the water temperature drops below that, you may want to consider a thicker wetsuit. If you’re unsure, feel free to ask us or consult the manufacturer’s guidelines for more information.

The Everflex Hood is designed to be worn in cold water, and the recommended water temperature range is between 50°F (10°C) and 55°F (13°C). In warmer water, the hood may not be able to provide the necessary thermal insulation, which could contribute to the material breakdown you’re experiencing.
