Does the Mares Sphere SMB come with a backup inflation mechanism? I’ve been using it for a few years now and it’s been great, but I want to make sure I’m covered in case the primary one fails.
Junhao Lo –
Thank you for reaching out about the Mares Sphere SMB! We appreciate your loyalty to this product and your concern for safety. Unfortunately, the Mares Sphere SMB does not come with a backup inflation mechanism. However, the SMB is designed with a reliable primary inflation mechanism that has been tested to provide a steady and reliable source of flotation. If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to us directly. We’re always here to help.

I used the Mares Sphere SMB during a scuba diving trip in the Caribbean and it was a lifesaver! The quick-to-inflate design and the easy-to-use mechanism made it simple to deploy in emergency situations. I loved the bright orange color, it made it super visible in the water. However, the line felt a bit too short for my liking, especially when I needed to deploy it from a distance. Overall, I’m very happy with the Mares Sphere SMB and would definitely recommend it to my fellow divers.
Daniel Wong –
The Mares Sphere SMB is fantastic. Highly recommend it for safety during dives. The material is excellent and well-made.

I’ve been using the Mares Sphere SMB for a few months now and it’s been a game-changer for me. The PVC material is super durable and the fastening rings on the bottom make it easy to attach and detach the carabiner. I’ve had no issues with the inflation mechanism and it’s always deployed quickly when I need it. My only minor complaint is that the color could be a bit more vibrant, but overall I’m super happy with this product.

How durable is the Mares Sphere SMB compared to its competitors? I’ve heard mixed reviews about its ability to withstand rough conditions. Can someone who’s used both products give me their honest opinion?
Imran Hanafiah –

We appreciate your interest in our product and would like to assure you that it is designed to withstand rough conditions. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to scuba diving and I’m not sure which SMB to get. The Mares Sphere SMB seems like a great option, but I’ve also heard good things about another product. Can someone who’s also new to scuba diving recommend which SMB they think is best for a beginner like me?
Imran Hanafiah –
Hello Renee, thank you for considering the Mares Sphere SMB for your scuba diving journey! I’m happy to help – I’m also a beginner in scuba diving, but I’ve had a chance to use the Mares Sphere SMB. It’s a great option for new divers because it’s user-friendly and easy to use. One of the features I like about it is the durable PVC material and the fastening rings on the bottom, which make it easy to attach to your gear. As for comparing it with other products, I’ve also heard great things about the Cressi Compact SMB, but it ultimately depends on personal preferences and needs. If you want, I can share some tips on how to choose the right SMB for a beginner like you? I’m always curious to hear others’ experiences too, maybe other users who have been in your shoes can chime in!

What makes the Mares Sphere SMB so durable?
Imran Hanafiah –
Thank you for your question, Emily. At Mares, we’re proud to say that the Sphere SMB is made of resilient PVC, which helps to make it resistant to wear and tear. The fastening rings on the bottom also add extra durability, while the 20 meters of line and carabiner provide added convenience without compromising on quality. We’ve taken every precaution to ensure that our sphere buoys can withstand regular use, making them ideal for diving and snorkeling trips. Have you had a chance to use yours in the water?
Kevin Lee –
Is the 20 meters of line sufficient for most scuba diving needs?
Junhao Lo –
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the Mares Sphere SMB! The 20 meters of line provided with the product is designed to be a general-purpose length suitable for most diving activities. However, we understand that diver preferences and requirements can vary. If you found the line length insufficient for your needs, we’d be happy to explore alternative options or provide recommendations for additional accessories.
Kenny Goh –
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I’ve had a few issues with the Mares Sphere SMB inflating properly on the first try. It’s usually okay after a few tries, but it’s still a bit frustrating. That being said, the product is well-made and the line is sturdy. I’ve had no issues with the carabiner or the fastening rings. Overall, it’s a solid product but it could use a bit more work on its inflation mechanism.
Rachael Tan –
I’ve never really had a sphere-shaped flotation device before. How do you like the Mares Sphere SMB?
Junhao Lo –
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughts on our Mares Sphere SMB! We’re glad you’re trying out a new type of flotation device. The sphere-shaped design is quite popular among our customers for its convenience and easy storage. If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Amanda Leong –
Unfortunately, the carabiner seems to be the weakest link in this product. It can be a bit tricky to secure the line properly.
Julian Koh –
One thing I’d love to see is a more compact size option, perhaps with adjustable line length?
Imran Hanafiah –
Thank you for your wonderful review, Julian! We’d love to hear more about your suggestion for a more compact size option with an adjustable line length. Our team will definitely consider this idea for potential future products or upgrades to our current Mares Sphere SMB. In the meantime, we appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy using your product.
