Ivan Leong –
What is the real difference in Open Cell vs Lined material in dive pants? We need a breakdown of what to expect from this technology. Honestly, I’m curious and a bit skeptical about it.
Imran Hanafiah –
Thank you for your review, Ivan. The main difference between Open Cell and Lined material in dive pants is the way they regulate your body temperature and provide flexibility. Open Cell technology, as used in our Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants, features separate cells within the material that are filled with gas. This provides excellent insulation, flexibility, and quick drying properties. Lined material, on the other hand, typically has a layer of insulation material sandwiched between two fabric layers. While it offers some warmth, it can be less breathable and less flexible. With Open Cell material, you can expect a more comfortable and flexible dive experience, with better temperature regulation and quick drying. I hope this helps you understand the technology behind our dive pants. If you have any further questions or would like to share your experience, please let us know!

Not sure why these pants are called ‘Apnea’ when they clearly weren’t designed for freediving. I thought they’d be more streamlined and flexible, but the stitching is bulky and uncomfortable. They do seem to be durable, but the ‘features’ listed on the product page are overhyped. Maybe they’re okay for the average joe casual diver?
Imran Hanafiah –
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants, Li Wei Fen. We apologize if the product didn’t meet your expectations. You’re right, the Apnea Instinct line is not specifically designed for freediving, but rather for technical diving and cold water diving. We understand that the stitching can be bulky, but many of our customers appreciate the added durability it provides. We’ll take your feedback into consideration for future product development. Can you tell us more about what you’re looking for in a diving pant?
Tan Siang Chye –
These Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants have served me very well for months, consistently providing a great balance between warmth and comfort. However, a feature I’m really missing is a reflective or reflective strip on the waistband — it would make visibility vastly superior in low light conditions. Something to think about!

I’m still getting used to these new 3mm thickness, but overall, I’m a big fan of the design. Open cell construction makes them super stretchy and the Mares logo looks sleek. My buddy and I took them for a test run and they withstood the test of multiple shallow dives without any noticeable stress. Easy to put on and take off!
Wong Yee Lynn –
I’m extremely impressed with the Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants! The open-cell structure provides excellent flexibility, and the 3mm thickness offers the perfect amount of warmth without feeling too bulky. I’ve worn them for multiple dives and have experienced no issues with comfort or functionality. I would highly recommend these pants to any freedivers or scuba divers looking for high-quality, reliable gear.

I recently purchased the Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants, and so far, I’m extremely pleased with their performance. The material is comfortable against my skin, and the design allows for a full range of motion. I’ve used them for several dives, and they’ve held up perfectly, showing no signs of wear or stress. I would recommend these pants to anyone in the market for high-quality dive gear.

This Apnea Instinct 30 3mm is by far one of the best wetsuits I’ve ever worn! Its open cell design provides excellent flexibility and breathability. I’m so impressed with the quality and performance, not to mention the style.
Will I be buying another one? Absolutely!

Knox Tan –
What is the ideal use for this Apnea Instinct 30 wetsuit? Is it for diving, surfing, or just general water sports?
Junhao Lo –
Thank you for reaching out to us, Knox! The Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants is a versatile wetsuit designed for cold-water diving and surfing. It’s perfect for divers who need flexibility and warmth in water temperatures ranging from 14 Celsius to 26 Celsius (57 F to 80 F). Although it can be used for general water sports, its primary function is for diving. The open-cell design provides excellent flexibility, while the 3mm thickness offers sufficient insulation. We hope this information helps, and please feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
Wendy Wong –
Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase! However, the price tag felt a bit steep. Still, it’s worth every cent for the quality and performance you get.
Alan Ow –
I’m curious, what is the primary difference between the 3mm and 5mm versions of this Mares Apnea Instinct wetsuit?
Junhao Lo –
Hello Alan, thank you for sharing your interest in the Mares Apnea Instinct 30 wetsuit. The primary difference between the 3mm and 5mm versions lies in their thermal insulation and flexibility. The 5mm version provides greater warmth in colder water conditions, making it suitable for colder water temperatures. In contrast, the 3mm version offers improved flexibility and mobility, which can be beneficial for divers who require more agility. Please note that the choice between the two versions depends on your personal preference and the specific conditions in which you’ll be diving.
May Wong –
Can anyone confirm whether the Apnea Instinct 30 is designed to be worn with a rash guard or not?
Imran Hanafiah –
Thank you for your question, May! Our Mares Apnea Instinct 30 3mm Man Open Cell Pants are designed to be worn as a standalone product, however they can also be worn under a wetsuit or rash guard for added protection. While we wouldn’t recommend wearing a rash guard on top of these pants, they can complement each other perfectly. Please let us know if you have any other questions or if there’s anything else we can help you with!
